Clare, you are so speaking my language! As a former teacher, I often wonder what the long-term effects are of some of the ways we teach kids. (I tend to use myself as the subject of this thought experiment--what affected me, and how?) So many of us have trouble getting back to our wild selves because we're told they're bad or not something we should admit to having in public, which is ridiculous--but the control works! Balance is definitely needed here, and the fiddlers of the world should be allowed to come out and play!
Clare, I could've written your words myself, you are so totally describing my experience as well! I love your story about the fiddler and your thoughts about the wild creative spirit within our zoos (that I also never know whether to visit or not). I have crazy hair that I've given up taming, I secretly love its determination to be what it is :) And I love to go barefoot and stand out in the wind and rain to remind me who I really am. Thanks for posting this x
I totally resonate with this!! I was brought up in a strict culture. but I'm a nuts...i love hug people and tell them how beautiful their spirit is whenever i want to. but at the same time, i know i can be crazy and nuts is because my inner-world is still like a mountain - that's always my safety net to be expressive :)
love
